Position Purpose: The Minister of Youth/Families of Youth will direct and lead youth and family programming. The minister shall seek to foster Christian discipleship in youth and families with youth by building relationships via word, service and community involvement. This Christian discipleship will be evidenced by:
- Gift based involvement bythe Youth/Families with Youth in the life of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Church at large.
- Increased attentiveness of the Youth/Families with Youth to their own spiritual journey and the journey of others.
- Youth/Families with Youth being equipped to share (both at home and beyond) the redeeming love of God evidenced by the death and resurrection of Jesus and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.
Ministry Functions: Be an example of the Christian life to the youth and families of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
- Lead the mid-week Elementary program (YouNite w/ Presbyterian Church), recruit & equip all areas of the program. Communicate the calendar to parents and develop strong relationships with the youth to create a safe place where they can learn about Jesus and who God created them to be.
- Facilitate the Sr. High youth group, supplying space for the youth to ask all types of questions and to make faith their own, investing in their spirituality, giving them practices to help them unplug from the world when needed and supporting them through regular communication. Meeting as a group at least once or twice a month with activities inside or outside of the church building.
- Facilitate and organize programming for a Jr. High Youth Group. Programming may include devotional and/or recreational activities inside or outside of the church building. Activities should be held on a regular basis throughout the year or at least quarterly.
- Serve as a member of the Christian Education Committee, but not as the chairman. As a staff member and a member of this committee you should:
- Work with the Chris Ed Committee to develop the mission, goals, and objectives of the committee.
- Have responsibility for directing and overseeing the YouNite program on Wednesday nights, Vacation Bible School and the Christmas Program.
- Provide weekly open door time for youth and families for support and encouragement.
- Nurture families, being available for family support through prayers and other methods.
- Encourage youth and the congregation members to participate in cross generational ministry.
- Attend worship regularly, conduct the children's sermon, and arrange for youth to read scripture one Sunday a month.
- Coordinate fundraising activities that support youth programs and equip parents and other volunteers to lead those activities.
- Assist the youth in planning and conducting the Easter Sunrise Youth service
- Plan and coordinate Christian Youth trips and communicate information concerning the trips to parents and other members of the congregation.
- Use computer and technology skills to assist the ministry needs of the church.
- Serve as a member of the Scholarship Committee, but not as the chairperson.
- Submit monthly reports to the congregation council and attend council meetings as frequently as possible.
- Maintain a travel log induding miles, other expenses and reason for travel and report to the co1mcil.
- Manage the income and expenses of the Youth/Fammes with Youth programs in a fiduciary capacity and ensure they are within budget guidelines and present quarterly financial reports to the council.
- Meet regularly with the pastor to review and evaluate the youth and family ministry programs and attend regular staff meetings.
- Regularly inform the members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church about the Youth activities. Usually with a monthly article in the newsletter and in weekly bulletins when necessary.
